Ambikol -Melik en Nasr-Turmukki island

Several further early settlement sites were found in the region between Ambikol and Melik en Nasr, including some on Turmukki island, most being recorded by Bengt Schonback and Lars Gezelius. No significant stratified remians seem to have survived and most finds were from surface levels. In some cases the pottery was quite eroded and worn, but some of the material recovered survived in large fragments, with well-preserved decoration. Further record photographs of pottery from some of these sites are included here. Generally located on quite high ground, some distance from the river bank, it seems likely that further such sites may still survive, some perhaps some distance from the river.
