In this area of southern Duweishat [near Kumuki/Kumukka island) there were many New Kingdom workshops sites on the hillslopes, as visible on aerial photographs taken in the 1950s. These are likely to relate to mines and wadi-workings within the eastern hinterland. It is not possible to closely date the excavated site seen here [21-S-9] beyond sometime during Dynasty 18-19.
